How it began

Our Story

Photo 1 of Ella and John

Our story starts with two of our favorite people - Kayla and Dakota Hickok.

Kayla suggested that John text Ella, this pretty girl from church. Allegedly, this wasn't the first time Kayla suggested this to John. The first time she tried, back in 2022, John wasn't having it. He told her, "That girl is the most beautiful girl I've ever seen and way out of my league. Are you trying to get me embarrassed? No way."

It wasn't until December of 2025 that John finally reached out. Kayla had put some feelers out and found out Ella thought he was cute too, so that helped. We went on our first date and it didn't take long to realize there was a reason we were brought together when we were. God's timing is something else.

Now, surrounded by the people we love most, we can't wait to begin our greatest adventure yet - as husband and wife, on a snowy (probably) January evening in the town we call our home.

And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.

The Morning After

  1. 10:00 AM

    Worship at Renew Church

The celebration doesn't have to end Saturday night. If you're still in town on Sunday morning, we'd love for you to join us for worship at Renew Church — come exactly as you are. It would mean the world to begin our first full day as husband and wife surrounded by the people we love. We will be attending the 10am service.

Attire

We’d love for our friends and family to dress up and celebrate with us. To help set the tone for the day, we’re suggesting Sunday best—think polished, elegant, but still comfortable. We kindly ask that you skip the ripped jeans, flip flops, and anything white.

Getting here & staying

Travel & Stay

Most of our guests are traveling from the Twin Cities or Madison — everything below is written with you in mind. If anything is unclear, just ask us!

Getting Here

  • Chippewa Valley Regional Airport (EAU)

The closest airport to Eau Claire — just minutes from both venues. It's convenient, but flight options are limited, so check schedules carefully before booking.

  • Minneapolis–Saint Paul International (MSP)

For the widest range of flight options, MSP is the major nearby airport and likely the best fit for many out-of-town guests. It's about 90–95 miles from Eau Claire — typically a 1.5–2 hour drive depending on traffic, weather, and road conditions.

  • Rental cars

Available at both airports: EAU has rental agencies right at the airport, and MSP has on-airport rental counters at both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2.

  • Groome Transportation shuttle

Groome runs shuttle service between the Eau Claire area and MSP, with stops including Eau Claire, Menomonie, Baldwin, and Hudson. Reserve directly with Groome, confirm current schedules and fares, and plan to arrive early for pickup.

Where to Stay

  • Holiday Inn South I-94

    South side, near I-94

Family-friendly with an indoor pool the kids will love, and one of the closest hotels to West Creek Event Center — an easy drive back after the reception.

  • Hampton Inn Eau Claire

    South side, near I-94

Reliable and comfortable, with free hot breakfast and easy interstate access — right in the same cluster of hotels near the reception venue.

  • Best Western Plus Eau Claire

    South side, near I-94

Spacious rooms, an indoor pool and hot tub for warming up after a winter day, and quick access to both I-94 and downtown.

New Year's in Eau Claire

Eau Claire is one of the best parts of celebrating here: a creative, welcoming city with a beautiful downtown, riverfront views, local coffee, and an easygoing Chippewa Valley feel.

If you're making a weekend of it, New Year's in the Chippewa Valley is a sweet chance to slow down, explore downtown, warm up with coffee, and enjoy a winter Wisconsin getaway before the wedding.

Our favorite coffee shop is Phoenix Coffee in downtown Eau Claire. For food, we love The Phoenix Taproom & Kitchen downtown — where we had our first date — and Northern Taphouse for burgers, pizza, and a casual dinner.

Want to explore a little more? The historic and much-loved Leinenkugel's Brewery & Leinie Lodge is in nearby Chippewa Falls (124 East Elm Street, Chippewa Falls, WI 54729) — about 12 miles from Eau Claire, typically a 20-minute drive. Check current tour hours and availability before visiting.
